Giants plate 5 runs in 1st; beat Brewers 7-2

Scottsdale, Ariz. – The Giants beat the Brewers today 7-2 at Scottsdale Stadium. Jeff Suppan pitched great against his former team, tossing 3.0-shutout innings, while allowing only 1 hit. Dan Runzler threw 2.0 innings with 3 strikeouts although he allowed a solo home run to George Kottaras in the 5th frame.

Guillermo Mota, Jeremy Affeldt, Santiago Casilla and Wilmin Rodriguez combined to throw the final 4.0 innings, allowing only 1 run (Affeldt). Huff finished the day going 2-for-4 with a double and run scored. Brandon Belt went 2-for-4 with a home run and 2 RBI. Mark DeRosa also played well, going 1-for-2 with a double and 2 RBI.

The Giants jumped all over the Brewers in the 1st inning, scoring 5 runs while batting around in the order. Aubrey Huff started things off with a double, then Miguel Tejada walked and Pat Burrell singled home Huff. Mark DeRosa continued his torrid pace this spring with a double off the right field fence and then Brandon Belt followed with his first home run of the spring into the right field bleachers, giving the Giants a 5-0 lead. SF scored 2 more runs in the 6th when Aaron Rowand doubled home Chris Stewart and Freddy Sanchez followed suit singling home Rowand.

The Giants now travel to Glendale to take on the Dodgers tonight. Barry Zito is scheduled to face Jon Garland.
