Giants score 4 runs in the 1st to beat Padres
Peoria, Ariz. – The Giants beat the Padres 6-4 tonight at Peoria Sports Complex. Giants’ ace Tim Lincecum earned the win, tossing 4.0 innings with 4 strikeouts while allowing 3 runs (1 earned) on 4 hits and 1 walk. Giants had 11 hits, but committed 4 errors in the field.
SF jumped on Padres’ starter Mat Latos in the 1st inning, scoring 4 runs on 5 hits. Aaron Rowand and Pablo Sandoval started the 1st inning with singles. Travis Ishikawa plated Rowand and Brandon Belt hit a ground-rule double, scoring Sandoval. Emmanuel Burriss singled to right field, bringing home Ishikawa and Belt while giving the Giants an early 4-0 lead.
The Padres plated 1 run in the 1st after a throwing error by Sandoval, which allowed Will Venable to score from third. The Friars made the score 4-2 after Orlando Hudson hit a solo home run to right in the 3rd inning off Lincecum. SD scored in the 4th when Jason Bartlett crossed homeplate after another fielding error by Sandoval. Mike Fontenot hit a 2-run clout in the 5th, giving the Giants 6-3 lead.
Rowand reached base in all three of his at-bats, going 2-for-2 with pair of singles, while also being hit by a pitch. Fontenot went 1-for-3 with a HR and 2 RBI. Sandoval, Ishikawa, Burriss and Eli Whiteside had a single apiece and Belt finished the night going 2-for-4 with a single, a double and RBI.
Tomorrow, the Giants host NL West rival Los Angeles Dodgers at Scottsdale Stadium. LHP Jonathan Sanchez will take the hill for the Giants and RHP Tim Redding will throw for the Dodgers. Game time is at 1:05 p.m. (12:05 p.m. PT) and can be heard on KNBR 680 and can be seen on CSN Bay Area.
