Barry Zito pitches 5.0-scoreless frames; Giants beat White Sox 4-2
Scottsdale, Ariz. – The Giants beat the White Sox 4-2 at Scottsdale Stadium today. Giants’ starter Barry Zito earned the win, tossing 5.0-scoreless innings, while allowing 1 hit and 1 walk while tossing just 50 pitches. Brian Wilson pitched a scoreless 6th with 2 punchouts, while allowing 3 baserunners (2 hits, 1 walk). Jeff Suppan earned his first spring save, throwing the final 3.0 innings while surrendering 2 runs on back-to-back solo home runs by Adam Dunn and Stefan Gartrell.
The Giants scored their first run of the game in the 4th inning when Aubrey Huff hit a solo home run to right which broke up Jake Peavy’s no-hitter. SF added 3 more runs in the 6th with run-scoring hits from Andres Torres, Aubrey Huff and Buster. The White Sox threatened in the 9th, scoring 2 runs on back-to-back solo shots, but it wasn’t enough for the win.
Tomorrow, the Giants travel to Goodyear Ballpark to take on the Reds. LHP Madison Bumgarner will take on RHP Bronson Arroyo. Game time is 1:05 (12:05 p.m. PT) and can be heard on sfgiants.com.
