Giants offense quiet in 1-0 loss to Mariners

Peoria, Ariz. – The Giants dropped a 1-0 contest to the Seattle Mariners today at Peoria Sports Complex. The Giants actually out-hit the Mariners 4-3 as both pitching staffs dominated the hitters. Ryan Vogelsong started for San Francisco and proceeded to log 3.2 innings while allowing 1 run on 2 hits with 5 strikeouts to suffer the loss. Dan Runzler pitched 2.1-scoreless innings and Guillermo Mota followed with 2.0-shutout frames.

The Giants’ only
scoring threat came in the 7th when Nate Schierholtz doubled with 2
outs and then Thomas Neal and Mike Fontenot drew consecutive walks to load the
bases for Ryan Rohlinger, who struck out to end the inning.

Tomorrow, the Giants
host the Chicago White Sox at Scottsdale Stadium. LHP Barry Zito is scheduled to start against RHP Jake Peavy. Game time is 1:05 p.m. (12:05 p.m. PT) and can be heard at sfgiants.com.
